WARNING   WARNING:  To reduce the risk of vehicle damage and personal burn injuries, do not start your engine with the air cleaner removed and do not remove it while the engine is running.

Change the air filter element at the correct interval.
Note:   When changing the air filter element, use only the air filter element listed.   See   Capacities and Specifications
Note:   Failure to use the correct air filter element may result in severe engine damage.Resulting component damage may not be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Note:   Failure to re-install the air cleaner assembly properly by fully seating on the mounting studs in five places and securing with the two bolts may result in air cleaner assembly dislodgement from engine and damage to the air cleaner assembly and other engine components. Therefore we recommend that the air filter be serviced at a Ford dealer.

Removing the Engine Air Filter Element
Removing the Engine Air Filter Element
  1. Loosen the hose clamps for air cleaner outlet tube (C). Disconnect the tube from the air cleaner assembly (A).
  1. Release the tabs and disconnect the PCV tube (D) from the air cleaner outlet tube (C) and remove the tube.
  1. Disconnect the air cleaner intake tube (E) from the air cleaner assembly (A).
Remove Air Cleaner Assembly Bolts
  1. Remove the bolts from each side of the air cleaner assembly (A) as shown with arrows.
Changing the Engine Air Filter
  1. Lift the air cleaner assembly (A) from the mounting studs, then rotate and pull it toward the front of the vehicle.
Engine Air Filter Cover Removal
  1. Remove the 5 bolts from the air cleaner cover (B).
  1. Remove the air cleaner cover (B) from the air cleaner assembly (A).
Installing the Engine Air Filter Element
Note:   Clean the inside of the air cleaner assembly before installing a new air filter element.
Installing the Engine Air Filter Element
  1. Install the new air filter element into the engine air cleaner assembly.
  1. Install the air cleaner cover (B) and tighten the 5 bolts.
Studs
  1. Position the air cleaner assembly (A) onto the engine and make sure the assembly is aligned with the studs.
Install Air Cleaner Assembly Bolts
  1. Install and tighten the bolts to each side of the air cleaner assembly (A) as shown with arrows.
  1. Attach the air cleaner intake tube (E) to the air cleaner assembly (A).
Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube
  1. Connect the PCV tube (D) to the air cleaner outlet tube (C).
  1. Connect the air cleaner intake tube (E) to the air cleaner assembly (A).
